Newstead Abbey Flower Festival June 15

Marie Stopes - A woman of inspiration

Marie Stopes was a recognised palaeobotanist specialising in ferns and advised the government on coal before founding family planning clinics in the 1920's for which she is most keenly remembered.

What made Sheila smile?

The exhibit would  not be complete without adding condoms and it was Sheila who admitted to giggling as she asked the assistant for a pack of three. Maybe she should have sent Terry !

Keeping it Fresh

Weeks of planning and designing took place before the flowers were even ordered. The arrangements could not be watered during the event so the flowers had to be well prepared and well watered

The Finished Article

The final result was a very elegant and considered display. which was placed appropriately, in a bedroom.
We certainly hope that the visitors appreciated the flowers and learned a little more about the work of Marie Stopes.
