Accolades for Amazing Audrey
31 Aug 14
Audrey March is officially amazing and awesome.
After over 50 years as a WI member at South Muskham, Little Carlton and Bathley, North Muskham and now AKS we were delighted to honour and recognise her wonderful efforts for the WI, the Riverside Parishes and her local community. I was overwhelmed with anecdotes and accolades which folk were happy to share about 'Aunty Audrey'.
She has held many WI posts over the years including president for many years. A keen gardener she was the horticultural society secretary for 27 years , spent over 60 years leading the children at Sunday school and 50+ years polishing the church brasses. Audrey continues to cycle around the area and cycles on the annual church cycle ride - raising almost £1000 in the past few years. She divides up and delivers the harvest supper collection and drops off the parish magazines. She is a member of the local history group and rarely misses a WI meeting or outing. She wont mind me acknowledging that she is well into her 80's and during her regular shopping trips she collects shopping for the elderly, which raises a smile. The esteem in which she is held was recognised a couple of years ago when Audrey was presented with a Citizen of the Year award by Newark and Sherwood Council, voted for by local people who love having her around. We presented her with a WI centenary china cup and commemorative brooch.
The list of Audrey's achievements is long and full as she has spent her lifetime helping others. There is not enough space here to do justice to it all. Her lively interest in life is still very much evident, she just loves to help others.
And what does this modest lady say about all the fuss?
''Well, I haven't done anything''
No Audrey, that's not right, the proof of it is all around us.

A Special Celebration for Ann
22 May 14
Ann
Miller received a surprise at the May WI meeting when she was presented with a certificate
and a patio rose in celebration and recognition of her 50 years as a member of
Averham, Kelham and Staythorpe Women’s Institute. I doubt that Ann expected
anyone to remember that she joined as a fresh new farmer’s wife in May 1964.
Ann is an unfaltering member of the WI having served many terms on the committee and held the role of President on more than one occasion, whilst still juggling the farm and young children. She remains very involved with the local community serving on the parish council, the church PCC and still finds time to support every fete, fund-raiser, event and outing that she can. Always first to offer support and confident of her opinions, Ann embodies the values of the WI – campaigning, education, inspiration and friendship and we are very lucky to have her. May her membership continue for many more years. Thank you Ann.
